Ellen Orseck explores turbulent weather, sumo wrestlers and portraiture. Her images of tornadoes were selected to represent Texas artists at the National Museum in Lima, Peru, as well as in Houston'
s City Hall. She presented two solo exhibitions in 2007, portraits of creative Texans in Made in Texas at Bering and James Gallery and Storms, Sumos and Sweets, a look at sumo wrestlers, desserts and tornadoes at the University of Houston Downtown's O'Kane Gallery.
Throughout her career, Orseck has earned public arts commissions from state arts councils and private patrons in Texas, Oklahoma, Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland. Her largest public commission was a mural awarded by the National Endowment for the Arts in her hometown, Baltimore, Maryland.
Orseck studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore and earned her Master's Degree in Museum Education at George Washington University. Her post-graduate education continued at the Glassell School of Art. In 2009, she will complete a Master's Degree in Painting from NYU, which includes a semester in Venice, Italy, and two semesters in New York.
Describing her most recent artwork Orseck said, "I am fascinated with storms because thay often reveal intense color, unusual perspectives and the vastness of panoramic vistas." She is represented by Bering and James Gallery in Houston, Texas.
